How it works

Five steps, each one checked.

Software does the searching and the paperwork. Licensed partners carry out the checks. A person reviews every shortlist, and you decide.

Funded hours

Funded hours, explained

Four schemes in England that can lower the cost of childcare.

15 hours

2-year-olds getting extra support

For families on certain benefits, such as Universal Credit with household income of £15,400 a year or less after tax, or where the child has an EHC plan or gets Disability Living Allowance. 38 weeks a year.

GOV.UK: Early Learning for 2 year olds

15 hours

All 3 and 4-year-olds

570 free hours a year, usually 15 hours a week for 38 weeks, from the term after the third birthday. Providers may charge for meals, nappies or trips.

GOV.UK: 15 hours for 3 and 4-year-olds

30 hours

Working parents, 9 months to 4 years

For parents in work who earn over a minimum amount; not if either parent expects adjusted net income over £100,000. Apply from 23 weeks old; you get an 11-digit code to give your provider and reconfirm every 3 months.

GOV.UK: Free Childcare for Working Parents

£2 for every £8

Tax-Free Childcare

The government adds £2 for every £8 you pay in, up to £500 every 3 months per child (£1,000 if disabled). Children aged 11 or under (16 if disabled); the provider must be signed up.

GOV.UK: Tax-Free Childcare

What Pietas does: we help you organise the paperwork and keep track of your 11-digit code. Eligibility is decided by the government, not by us.
